Migrating a global connectivity programme

Background

Global Connectivity (GC), now known as Fixed Networks, was a complex global programme of work. The objective? To migrate the entire MOD estate from the BT-managed Defence Fixed Telecommunications Service (DFTS) network to a new Fujitsu-managed contract. Requiring a significant amount of technical and programmatic expertise to deliver against challenging objectives, multiple interdependent projects, challenging timelines and uncertain scope.

Overview

As the GC partner it was our role to coordinate the overall programme, while also getting hands on to manage a wide array of individual projects across a diverse and complex set of capabilities. That meant everything from CSI technical support, project management and migration support to SCIDA, RISO plus finance, approvals and above secret support.

Resource identification and tailoring

By identifying the scope and desired outcomes for the project, we could ensure the right people, resources and skillsets were ready to be deployed. At exactly the right time.

Upskilling the PM team

We always upskill. By working closely with project management teams, we gave them the tools they needed to take responsibility for risk management and mitigation activities.

Coordinating complete collaboration

With such a dynamic mix of projects ranging in complexity and duration – coordination and collaboration was key. We managed timelines, milestones and the flow of information from stakeholder to stakeholder.

Leveraging subject matter experts

Taking a holistic approach to overseeing front door processes and back door change management meant we could assess, triage and introduce subject matter experts to offer more specialist support.
